Tetris Didn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

Each time a major awards ceremony approaches, one notices a demand for the addition of new categories to recognize overlooked contributions and delight the hearts of followers with niche passions.

Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for strategy board titles, representing someone's personal cause. However, I must insist for pushing forward because like all blinkered fanatics, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent above others. This is the request: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that cinema institutions don’t do it. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise in the world of video games, which are so diverse they barely qualify as a single art form.

For the full spectrum of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Existing Game Classification System

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Between them, these award types effectively encompass a lot of ground, making space possible for numerous titles.

Not so for brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges in a particular game, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers launched regularly that have no home in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked completely that year
  • Another creative title received no nominations during that ceremony
  • Well-received sorting experience received no acknowledgment in 2021
  • Just some puzzle games scraped into small studio or handheld classifications

Value of Brain-Teasers

Commonly they're modest productions, however the design of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games rank among most engaged experiences in the world maintaining this status for many years.

The legendary block-stacking game challenges well-known building titles competing to become most purchased experience; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Proposal and Rationale

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. It would be easy to populate a field of five interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent many worthy titles.

To emphasize again, these represent titles that otherwise have no home at major gaming awards. Logic title developers function at the hard edge game development, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
